Nach einem romantischen Wochenende wird ein junges Paar Opfer eines bewaffneten Überfalls. Die Frau stirbt sofort an ihren schweren Verletzungen, ihr Lebensgefährte überlebt. Ein Indiz macht die Ermittler misstrauisch.

16 Jahre lang wurde der Tod einer Frau für einen Unfall gehalten. Nun meldet sich eine Person bei der Polizei und behauptet, die Frau sei ermordet worden. Bevor die Ermittler den Fall neu aufrollen können, wird der Informant ermordet.

Ein Mädchen behauptet, entführt und sexuell missbraucht worden zu sein. Zunächst bezweifeln die Ermittler, dass die Zwölfjährige die Wahrheit sagt, doch an ihrer Kleidung gefundene Fasern unterstützen ihre Geschichte.

Die Diagnose der Gerichtsmedizin lautet: Unfalltod. Doch die ermittelnden Beamten sind aufgrund der Beweislage am Tatort anderer Meinung. Bis zur endgültigen Feststellung der Todesursache in diesem Fall vergehen drei Jahre.
