The Justice Department announced Thursday that Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, a leader of Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel, and Joaquín Guzmán López, the son of fellow cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, have been arrested by U.S. authorities in El Paso, Texas. Both men are facing multiple charges in the U.S. for leading the cartel’s criminal operations, including its deadly fentanyl manufacturing and trafficking networks. U.S. officials had offered a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to Zambada's capture.

In a statement, the DOJ called the Sinaloa cartel "one of the most violent and powerful drug trafficking organizations in the world."

Kamala Harris is closing the gap on Donald Trump according to recent opinion polls showing them as "neck-and-neck".

Fresh surveys carried out by the Wall Street Journal show just a two-point gap in favour of Donald Trump - suggesting that the Democrats have gained ground since Joe Biden dropped out of the race last weekend.

KÖLN: Junge Migranten terrorisieren Viertel! "Unübertrieben sehr dramatisch!" Raub, Drogen, Gewalt!

Die Kriminalstatistik von Nordrhein-Westfalen für das vergangene Jahr zeigt einen besorgniserregenden Trend: 40,6 Prozent der Gewaltdelikte wurden von ausländischen Tatverdächtigen begangen. Besonders alarmierend ist der Anstieg der Kriminalität unter Kindern und Jugendlichen. Bereits 2022 stiegen die Fallzahlen nach dem Ende der Corona-Pandemie erheblich, und dieser Trend setzte sich im letzten Jahr fort. Die Quote der kriminellen Migranten im Kindesalter stieg um 13,6 Prozent, was 7039 Personen entspricht, während bei Jugendlichen die Rate um 21,9 Prozent auf 13.040 zunahm.

NRW-Innenminister Herbert Reul bezeichnete diese Entwicklung als sehr ernst. Er führt den Anstieg auf veränderte demografische Strukturen zurück. Die Anzahl der in NRW lebenden Ausländer ist von 1,7 Millionen im Jahr 2013 auf über 2,8 Millionen fast zehn Jahre später gestiegen. Entsprechend stieg auch die Anzahl der nichtdeutschen Tatverdächtigen um 33,5 Prozent auf 169.000.

Türkische und syrische Staatsangehörige führen die Liste der kriminellen Migranten an. Reul stellte fest, dass ukrainische Geflüchtete, die meist Frauen und Kinder sind, seltener in der Kriminalstatistik auftauchen. Im Gegensatz dazu reisen aus Syrien häufig junge Männer ein, die unabhängig von ihrer Staatsangehörigkeit eher kriminell sind als Frauen. Dies spiegelt sich auch im Kriminal-Report wider, der zeigt, dass von den 485.000 Tatverdächtigen nur etwa jede fünfte eine Frau ist.

Besonders besorgniserregend ist der massive Zuwachs an Tatverdächtigen aus den Maghreb-Staaten. Bei marokkanischen Staatsbürgern stieg die Zahl der Tatverdächtigen um 16,3 Prozent (566 Personen), während bei tunesischen Delinquenten ein Anstieg um 40,3 Prozent (377 Personen) zu verzeichnen war.
